BAID Teacher Development: Planning Careers and Improving Classroom Practice

On the morning of February 1, 2026, Beijing Academy Vice Principal Zhou Duanyan delivered a lecture for BAID teachers. A Beijing Physics specialist with special-grade and senior-level teaching qualifications, he discussed professional development and teaching that develops core abilities, alongside AI in education. His advice offered teachers practical approaches to planning their growth.

Planning Professional Development

Principal Zhou encouraged teachers to plan their professional development carefully, study relevant documents and establish a clear personal pathway. He advised documenting teaching achievements deliberately and connecting professional growth with everyday responsibilities. Drawing on his own career, he explained how he planned ahead and accumulated work that demonstrated his development, while balancing teaching and school administration.

He recommended making small experiments and assignments, research tasks and projects part of regular teaching, with student development at the center. Connecting teaching with research can develop students' broader abilities. He encouraged BAID teachers to participate in district and cross-campus subject research, explore collaborative teaching across disciplines, undertake educational research projects and publish papers.

Principal Zhou also presented the school's experience using AI in teaching. He encouraged teachers to attend training, improve their digital teaching abilities and explore new approaches to instruction.

Teachers' Reflections

Principal Zhou's lecture gave me a deeper understanding of career development as the result of thoughtful advance planning. His emphasis on small experiments and assignments, research tasks and projects showed how carefully designed activities and detailed feedback contribute to education. They help students discover interests and enable teachers to document results and refine their methods. I want to combine committed teaching with a clear awareness of my direction. Reviewing and reflecting on everyday practice can develop a substantial professional foundation. Pursuing high standards in each small task can support long-term growth.

—Xin Yu, Geography Teacher

The lecture clarified opportunities for BAID teachers' development and encouraged me to reconsider limits I had placed on my career. I gained a clearer understanding of possible pathways and how to document my work. Principal Zhou used Physics to explain how small experiments and assignments, research tasks and projects develop students' core abilities. His everyday examples showed the subject's many practical connections. The plans for AI in teaching also introduced new possibilities. Connecting deliberate professional planning with classroom practice can improve teaching and support personal development together.

—Liu Haishun, Physics Teacher

Principal Zhou explained career planning milestones and small classroom projects, connections between domestic and international opportunities and developments in AI education. He gave younger teachers a clear direction and showed how everyday teaching can produce research findings. As a new teacher, I had an uncertain understanding of my career path. His advice to "break through self-imposed limits" helped me reconsider my possibilities. I will use the session as a starting point to develop alongside my colleagues and the school.

—Xu Mengjie, Chinese Literature Teacher

Further Support

The training helped BAID teachers, particularly those early in their careers, understand professional pathways and methods. It clarified connections between classroom teaching and research, alongside personal development. The school will continue supporting academic exchanges across campuses and opportunities for teachers to present their work, helping them improve their teaching and advance professionally.
