#Congrats | BA MUN Club Wins Awards at Two Conferences
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic activity in which students represent countries as diplomats and debate international issues. They simulate conference proceedings by writing position papers and delivering speeches, negotiating alliances and drafting resolutions. Participation calls for knowledge of international relations and political insight, public speaking and negotiation skills, crisis management and written English.
BAID students founded the BA MUN Club in 2018. It has grown from a small group to a medium-sized club, recording about 40 memberships over the past two years. Members come from BAID and the Gaokao track, as well as the integrated classes. Wednesday sessions cover UN rules of procedure and writing position papers and resolutions, impromptu speaking and debate. Activities also include open debates and rapid question-and-answer sessions, along with coordinated crisis simulations. Club leaders An Yuehan of BAID G11C1 and Chen Xinmo of G11C3 design discussions around issues within Beijing Academy, connecting MUN approaches with daily school life.
The club also participates in external conferences, attending more than ten well-known events in China and abroad over two years. In 2026, it organized attendance at two important competitions. During the winter break, eight members joined the Zhongbao MUN Beijing Middle School Model United Nations Winter Activity: An Yuehan and Chen Xinmo, Duan Ran and Lin Boting, Liu Ruochen and Liu Sicheng, Cao Kunyue and Wu Yuchen.
The event brought together students from leading Beijing schools. In the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) committee, Chen Xinmo chaired the dais, drawing on sustained interest and detailed research in Palestinian refugee issues. She was responsible for agenda design and academic standards. An Yuehan served on the dais and helped guide proceedings. Liu Sicheng and Cao Kunyue, Lin Boting and Wu Yuchen, along with Liu Ruochen, represented countries debating Ensuring Protection of Palestinian Refugees Amid Regional Conflicts. Through demanding debates and negotiations, Wu Yuchen of G11C1 in the Gaokao track impressed judges and delegates with confident delivery and precise expression, alongside flexible diplomacy. Wu received the Best Style award.
In the Global Women's Summit (GLW), delegates debated Online Violence and Algorithmic Bias in the Age of AI. First-time participant Duan Ran of BAID G10C5 received an Honorable Mention for compelling speeches and rigorous arguments, together with the ability to respond effectively during proceedings. This achievement reflected the club's ongoing preparation.
In March, the club attended its most demanding event, the Peking University National High School Model United Nations Conference. Organized by the School of International Studies and run by the university's student MUN association, it is one of China's leading MUN conferences, known for academic rigor and broad influence. Qualifying demonstrates a club's academic preparation. The 2026 event coincided with the School of International Studies' thirtieth anniversary and attracted more than 300 students from 94 high schools across China. Club leaders An Yuehan and Chen Xinmo began intensive preparation for the qualifying academic assessment, securing four places for Beijing Academy. An Yuehan and Chen Xinmo, together with Cao Kunyue and Duan Ran, participated in the United Nations Conference on International Organization (UNCIO) and the Third Committee—Social, Humanitarian and Cultural (GA3), as well as the World Climate Summit (WCS). Over three demanding days, they gave their full effort alongside delegates from leading schools nationwide.
An Yuehan received the Outstanding Delegate award, and Chen Xinmo earned an Honorable Mention.
Club members are continuing their study and preparation with enthusiasm and care. Experienced members will guide newer participants as they prepare for the next two events. Through rigorous work and cooperation, the club hopes to achieve further success and offer more Beijing Academy students opportunities to develop through MUN.
