Lingnan University Admissions Officer Introduces Digital Liberal Arts Education
On March 13, Beijing Academy welcomed Guan Lingjun, an admissions officer from Hong Kong SAR China's Lingnan University, for a presentation to students and parents. The session introduced undergraduate study in Hong Kong SAR China and Lingnan's approach to education. Drawing on international educational developments, Mr. Guan explained the university's history and distinctive programs, along with admission policies and opportunities after graduation.
Mr. Guan introduced Lingnan's history of more than 130 years and its approach to combining digital learning with liberal arts education. One of Hong Kong SAR China's eight public universities, Lingnan combines research with a liberal arts focus. He highlighted the following academic strengths:
- Social Policy and Administration and Philosophy, along with Media Studies, rank among Asia's leading subjects.
- Its Business School places among China's top 20 in the UTD research ranking.
- Politics and Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence and Image Processing, along with Industrial Engineering, rank among the leading fields in Hong Kong SAR China.
These achievements reflect the university's academic standing.
Learning at Lingnan
Mr. Guan described an educational approach emphasizing small classes and whole-person development, international experience and digital learning. Classes average just over 20 students, and more than 70% of faculty are international, supporting close interaction and individual guidance. More than 80% of students have opportunities for overseas exchanges through partners in over 50 countries and regions. Lingnan's five undergraduate schools support study across disciplines. All first-year students take a core AI course, establishing digital literacy across subjects and preparing students for an increasingly technological world.
The presentation also covered support for further study and internships, alongside employment. Mr. Guan said Lingnan's undergraduate employment rate ranks among the highest of Hong Kong SAR China's eight funded universities. More than half of graduates enter business and industry, including employers such as HSBC and JPMorgan, as well as Lenovo. He explained that non-local graduates can remain in Hong Kong SAR China for 24 months under IANG, with opportunities to pursue employment or further study and explore pathways to permanent residence.
Admissions and Scholarships
Mr. Guan explained available programs and application procedures, language requirements and policies for mainland applicants. Lingnan assesses candidates holistically and selects them on merit. Scholarships are considered alongside admission, with a single application covering both. Awards include full scholarships and full or half tuition waivers, renewable annually. Athletes can receive support through the Elite Student-Athlete Admission Scholarship (ESEA) and SALSA Student-Athlete Funding Scheme, helping them pursue academic and sporting development together. The Samuel C. C. Ting Elite Class, introduced in 2026, offers top students four years of tuition and accommodation waivers. It also provides priority access to research and opportunities to meet Nobel laureates.
After the presentation, Mr. Guan answered individual questions from students and parents. The event gave families a fuller picture of Lingnan's teaching and student development, campus life and future opportunities. Choosing a university involves considering how students want to learn and develop, along with their longer-term direction. Beijing Academy will continue expanding international partnerships and connecting students with educational opportunities in China and abroad.
