Economics Week Highlights

At noon on December 18, the annual Economics Week began in the lively lobby outside Desheng Library. The economics teaching team organized five activities: an exhibition of outstanding student work, performances on the Economics Stage, a coffee and creative products market, an economics quiz, and a themed dress-up day. Each offered students a different way to engage with the subject.

Students shared their work and performed onstage, competed individually and dressed in colors representing their classes. Together, these activities extended classroom learning and gave economics students a celebration of their own.

Economics Through Song and Dance

The Economics Stage opened at 12:50 p.m. Every performance featured original work or adaptations that students had created around economic concepts, explaining the subject through music.

Student Work and the Coffee and Creative Products Market

Elsewhere in the lobby, students displayed illustrated economics posters and mind maps, model analysis diagrams and reading notes. Passing teachers and students stopped to browse, sometimes searching for their own contributions. Beluga Coffee Shop and the BAID Creative Store jointly ran the coffee and creative products market. A hot latte and products designed by students gave visitors a tangible encounter with ideas from the classroom. Teachers joined the shoppers, supporting student creativity through their purchases.

Students Reflect on Economics Week

Ye Tianxing

For me, Beijing Academy's Economics Week captures what makes the subject so appealing. In the ground-floor lobby at Desheng, we wore different colors, each with a particular meaning, and enjoyed the welcoming atmosphere and performances. The display boards caught my attention first: beautifully prepared notes and models of economic graphs, along with Travis currency that students had made themselves. The work showed our individual perspectives on economics, and we could place stickers beside our favorites. Student performances were another highlight. We incorporated economics into lyrics and dances, as well as games, exploring connections with other subjects. Songs told stories about economic concepts, while movements represented features of economic graphs. Economics Week is one of my favorite school events because it is entertaining to watch and offers so much to learn.

My favorite part of Economics Week was creating our own economics songs and performing them with choreography. When we first received the assignment to adapt a song, we felt anxious. We had to explain abstract macroeconomic concepts accurately, including GDP and inflation as well as macroeconomic policy, while fitting new lyrics to the music. It was a considerable challenge. At first, we often got stuck writing, sang off-key during rehearsals, or forgot the words. We kept revising the lyrics and practicing together. Gradually, we became more comfortable and could sing each section confidently. Creating the song also gave us a new appreciation of macroeconomics. Before going onstage, my fellow singers and I worried about making mistakes or forgetting the lyrics. As the lights came on and the music began, we saw classmates waving to the beat and laughing in the audience. Our anxiety disappeared. Their enthusiasm helped us relax, and by the end we were thoroughly enjoying the performance. Sharing macroeconomics through a song made us especially happy. Thank you to everyone who clapped and cheered, or swayed along with us. You made me eager to perform again.

As the organizer of the Economics Week, held on December 18, 2025, I am filled with pride and gratitude as I reflect on another successful accomplishment. The event was a wonderful celebration of creativity, talent, teamwork, and the practical application of economics.

One of the highlights was the exhibition of excellent student assignments, which showcased the hard work, knowledge, and innovation of our students. The Coffee and Creative Shop was also a great success, giving students the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship by selling a variety of items and demonstrating important economic concepts in action. The Economics Talent Show brought excitement and energy to the event. Students confidently displayed their talents through singing, dancing, and rapping about topics they had learned in economics. The question-and-answer segments added an educational and interactive element, with students winning prizes for their knowledge and participation. It was also inspiring to see students and teachers dressed in colors representing their classes, creating a vibrant atmosphere of unity and school spirit. The Economics Stage was alive with enthusiasm, learning, and entertainment throughout the day. Seeing students actively engaged and enjoying the event made all the planning worthwhile.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Teacher Liang, Teacher Shuai, and Teacher Ye for their dedication, hard work, and support in making this event possible. Their commitment and teamwork played a vital role in the success of Economics Week.

Thank you to all the students, teachers, and staff who participated and contributed. Together, we made Economics Week 2025 another memorable and rewarding experience, and I look forward to even greater success in the years ahead.

Thank you to everyone who performed or prepared the exhibitions, designed products or answered quiz questions, and wore colorful clothes to brighten the lobby.

See you at next year's Economics Week!
