AP 2D Art and Design
What Students Learn
Students explore composition and visual expression through media such as photography or graphic design. A personally developed inquiry guides experimentation with materials and processes, comparison of alternatives, and ongoing revision, with documentation of how ideas develop.
Core Learning Themes
1. Investigate materials and processes and develop ideas
2. Create two-dimensional work through practice and revision
3. Present a portfolio and explain the creative process
AP Assessment
AP assessment uses a digital portfolio. Sustained Investigation accounts for 60% and includes 15 digital images with written responses; images may document finished work or the creative process. Selected Works accounts for 40% and includes digital images of five works with commentary. Assessment considers two-dimensional design skills and coherent inquiry, including how materials and ideas work together.
