AP 3D Art and Design
What Students Learn
Students investigate relationships between three-dimensional forms and space through practices such as sculpture or model making. They consider volume and structure alongside material qualities and spatial organization, comparing alternatives and documenting revisions in response to a self-developed inquiry.
Core Learning Themes
1. Investigate three-dimensional materials and processes
2. Develop spatial forms through practice and revision
3. Present a portfolio and explain artistic ideas
AP Assessment
AP assessment uses a digital portfolio. Sustained Investigation accounts for 60%, with 15 digital images and written responses documenting the development of work. Selected Works accounts for 40%, with digital images of five works and commentary. Assessment considers three-dimensional design skills and spatial organization, alongside the quality of sustained inquiry and revision.
