Humanities 3

What Students Learn

This course is generally suited to academically well-prepared students in Grade 10 and above with strong English reading skills. Thematic reading and comparison of sources develop understanding of the humanities and attention to evidence, helping students examine how perspectives develop and strengthen critical thinking and argumentative writing.

Learning Focus

1. Academic reading: identify central claims and contextual information

2. Source analysis: evaluate perspectives and evidence

3. Comparative inquiry: explain connections and differences between perspectives

4. Argumentation: organize evidence in analytical writing

Learning Outcomes

Learning outcomes emphasize source reading and written argument. Students extract information, explain how evidence supports a position, and respond to alternative interpretations in discussion or writing, developing independent analysis and academic communication.
