Beijing Academy Model Builders Club
President: Li Xiaoyao, Xia Yiqiao
We founded the club to give students who enjoy making things a dedicated space and a supportive environment for their creative work. Amid a demanding school schedule, members have time each week to pursue their interests and relax.
The club has two main areas of activity. One president leads 3D printing and modeling and has purchased a 3D printer for all members to use on campus. We provide individual instruction in operating the printer and adjusting print settings. Members can print directly from more than 400,000 free designs on MakerWorld. We also teach basic 3D modeling so members can design and print their own creations. We are currently building a 3D printed remote control aircraft and welcome students interested in technology and model aviation to work with us. The other president has extensive model building experience and specializes in plastic kits from Tamiya and Fujimi, as well as Hasegawa. Members receive detailed guidance throughout the process, from assembly and sanding to painting and modifying individual details.
Our faculty advisors, Liu Haishun and Wang Zewen, provide expert support throughout our model building and technology projects. The club currently has more than 50 members from BAID and the Gaokao track. We meet during periods 9 and 10 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as well as Fridays. We are also collaborating with Art Grove and the BAID Cultural & Creative Club.
Model Builders Club members brought 3D modeling lessons to rural schools in Hunan's Dong communities. Their work received coverage from Qingchun Huaihua and Hunan Daily, as well as Beijing Daily.
