Accelerated English
What Students Learn
Accelerated English is for Grade 10 students who need additional TOEFL speaking and writing practice, with an emphasis on academic discussion writing and independent speaking. Using a TOEFL question bank, students complete frequent responses in class and receive immediate feedback. They practice organizing ideas quickly and building a range of expressions for different topics, while improving the quality of their spoken and written English.
Learning Focus
1. Organizing ideas: use methods from impromptu speaking training to brainstorm randomly selected questions. Practice constructing responses quickly and connecting ideas.
2. Speaking: respond in class and use immediate corrections to improve pronunciation and intonation. Adjust speaking pace and develop expressions that can be used across different topics.
3. Writing: practice academic discussion responses and improve vocabulary use and sentence quality. Develop ideas more fully.
4. Feedback and transfer: refine responses through immediate feedback and demonstrations. Identify connections between questions and adapt existing ideas to related topics.
Learning Outcomes
Frequent practice helps students organize ideas for speaking and writing and develop fuller responses. Students participate actively in discussions and respond in class, using feedback to improve their expression. Detailed notes help them build a collection of language examples and approaches to answering questions.
