Filmmaking

What Students Learn

Filmmaking combines film analysis with creative practice to explore how images and sound communicate a story. Students develop an idea and plan shots, then film and edit material to produce short films through collaboration.

Learning Focus

1. Story and shot planning: develop a narrative and plan its visual presentation

2. Filming and composition: communicate through framing and changes of shot

3. Sound and editing: organize audiovisual material and develop narrative pacing

4. Collaboration and critique: share production responsibilities and revise work through feedback

Learning Outcomes

Students plan and complete short films and explain how their filming and editing choices support their intentions. Creative work and critique develop visual storytelling and collaborative production skills.
