China Young Physicists' Tournament Team

This course is a "high quality elective course" with entry requirements.

What Students Learn

This course investigates open problems in physics through theoretical analysis and experimental inquiry. Students work in teams to design experiments and organize data, comparing physical explanations with observations. Presentations and discussion help them refine their investigations.

Learning Focus

1. Problems and theory: examine physical phenomena and consult sources to formulate research questions.

2. Experimental design: choose measurement methods and control variables. Record the procedure and observations.

3. Data and explanation: analyze patterns in data and compare theoretical predictions with experimental findings. Discuss sources of error.

4. Presentations and discussion: explain the evidence behind conclusions and respond to questions. Discuss alternative explanations.

Learning Outcomes

Students apply physical concepts to open problems and support explanations with experimental data. Sustained inquiry and academic discussion develop scientific argument and collaborative research skills.

Enrollment Information

The course is open to high school students, matching the competition's high school eligibility, and meets on Wednesdays with 20–30 places. Selection is through an interview with consideration of academic performance.
