Elite Scholar

This course is a "high quality elective course" with entry requirements.

What Students Learn

Elite Scholar is a yearlong humanities and social science research partnership between BAID and various Beijing-based higher education institutions. With guidance from university faculty and graduate teaching assistants, students select topics in fields such as Communication Studies, including Film Anthropology and Anthropology. They complete the full research process through literature reviews and research design, questionnaires and interviews, data analysis and paper writing, and presentations. Sustained academic investigation develops their ability to formulate research questions and broadens their perspectives in the humanities.

Learning Focus

1. Research questions: identify an area of interest and formulate an investigable question in the humanities or social sciences.

2. Research methods: undertake literature reviews and research design, using questionnaires and interviews to collect material.

3. Analysis: organize research material and analyze data to support judgments with evidence.

4. Papers and presentations: write a research paper and explain the investigation and its conclusions. Respond to questions during discussion.

Learning Outcomes

Students complete a research process from choosing their own topic to writing a paper and presenting their findings. Sustained academic work develops their ability to formulate questions and broadens their perspectives in the humanities.
