VEX Robotics
This course is a "high quality elective course" with entry requirements.
What Students Learn
This course develops engineering practice through robotics tasks, combining mechanical design with programming and control. Students build and debug robots in teams, revising their designs and code in response to performance. Collaborative work develops methods for solving engineering problems.
Learning Focus
1. Task analysis: interpret task requirements and rules to define the robot's functions.
2. Mechanical construction: compare mechanisms and assemble the robot. Examine movement and power transmission.
3. Programming and debugging: write control programs and observe robot operation to identify problems.
4. Teamwork: document design changes and coordinate responsibilities. Refine solutions in response to performance.
Learning Outcomes
Students combine mechanical systems with programmed control to complete robotics tasks and explain the reasons for design revisions. Practical work and teamwork develop engineering reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Enrollment Information
The course is open to middle school and high school students and meets on Fridays, with approximately 30 places. Selection is through an interview.
